I am NEVER going to circumcise my son.
I honestly don't care what my husband or society or the doctors have to say about it: I am vehemently against the practice of circumcision. Earlier today the American Academy of Pediatrics finally took a stance on the circumcision for baby boys and says that it "doesn't reduce sexual pleasure in adult men, prevents a host of diseases and is a practice they endorse". Well, I don't buy it! Because no matter what they say, I am absolutely, positively never going to let someone do this cruel practice to my son.

Yes, I think this practice is cruel. I don't care what the AAP says: it does indeed decrease pleasure in adult men. Now, I know what you're going to say: "you're not a man! How would YOU know?" Well, I've had boyfriends who were circumcised and boyfriends who were not and I can tell you, without a doubt, that there was definitely a big difference in their reactions to certain stimuli.
As for the cleanliness issues? Oh, give me a BREAK! Are we seriously so lost that we can't teach a little boy how to wash his penis properly? Maybe I just haven't met one of these men that constantly gets urinary tract infections or other "diseases" because he still has his foreskin, but it all really comes down to proper cleaning. Seriously, people, it's NOT THAT DIFFICULT! Little girls have to be taught to clean their areas properly, so what's the big difference in teaching an uncircumcised boy the same?

I think circumcision is completely unnecessary. I can understand how the practice started thousands of years ago, when the world was very different and we were perhaps not the best at taking care of our nether regions, but it is certainly even less necessary today. Taking a pair of scissors (or whatever it is that they use) to a child's genitalia is cruelty. How, exactly, is male circumcision different than the genital mutilation that young girls endure in some developing countries, which are frequently called "female circumcision"?
Why, exactly, do we think it's okay to do this? I can't for the life of me fathom how this became such a popular practice. If nature really wanted the penis to not have some foreskin, I'm pretty sure that the males in our species would have long ago evolved past having it—but hey, they haven't! Don't you think there's a good reason for that?
Well, fine, maybe you don't. Certainly, the AAP doesn't agree with me. No matter what anyone says, though, I know one thing for sure: I am NEVER going to circumcise my son.

Thanks for your input, Natalie! As with anything, there are pro and cons to this topic. This was just my take as to why I do not want to do it to my own child.
Newborn babies are not sick. They do not need to be circumcised ,they are by ignorance or religious practices and they are without anesthesia, because they are too little for the anesthesia,so they endure terrible pain and some times scares thar require further operations. When waiting some years if necessary the operation can be perform under anesthesia. Some babies are too fragile for that kind of pain and die
When I had my two sons I was asked if wanted them circumcised and I declined for the same reason as Irina. I couldn't live with thought of my baby going through excrutiating pain for something that is not necessary; If something doesn't make sense to me I refuse to practice.
And as for Natalie Aberman, it is apalling how some people don't use ther better sense and alllow doctors to make decisions for them amd their loved ones. Doctors are generally decensitized about suffering and they have to be. However As a mother I refuse to let someone make a decison for my child darn well knowing that it will inflict the worst pain in their little bodies. Just because a doctor has a degree doesn't mean he knows what's best for MY CHILD.
Natalie: While I appreciate your comments and I think we would ALL agree that we need to trust our doctors, the reason for the American Academy of Pediatrics recommending circumcision is actually because a cut penis is less likely to spread STDs/AIDS and for cleanliness issues. However, in my opinion that has to do with a much older adult than the baby. If there are problems with infectionsin a young child, then of course circumcision needs to be considered. However, the potential spread of STDs is NOT something that I will concern my child with. For me, EDUCATION is more important than cutting a piece of skin that nature put there.
I did not have my son circumcised. It was my decision . As for taking advice from a Dr. the last I heard they just practice medicine and learn of new things daily so I as a parent will be making the decision.
