Ana Grace Marquez-Green would have been 7 years old today if her life had not been cut short by the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School last year. Ana's family posted a heart-wrenching, moving tribute on Facebook today.

In honor of Ana's life, we invite you to celebrate with family or friends today. Reach out to a neighbor, coworker or classmate. Perform a random act of kindness. Wear something purple or sparkly. Read with a child. Crank up the music, eat second dessert, dance like nobody's watching. Call your leaders. Pray for our country. Pray for common sense solutions. Pray for a love revolution.

A child dying before a parent is just unnatural in and of itself, but a child being slaughtered is unfathomable. It leaves parents, siblings, family, friends, and community reeling. How do you ever recover from such a senseless act of violence? The moving tribute on Ana's tribute page continues...

In a heartwarming effort to honor those affected by two different tragedies, New Jersey's largest firefighter union is building 26 playgrounds--one for each of the victims of December's Sandy Hook shooting--in communities affected by Hurricane Sandy.

The project, entitled Sandy Hook: Where Angels Play, will give New Jersey and New York 10 playgrounds each and Connecticut, six. The playgrounds are meant to serve not only as memorials, but also as reminders of hope and recovery for the communities. Isn't that an incredible idea?!

The Grammys are this weekend and this year, viewers will get to see one particularly special performance-- not from one of the celebrity nominees, but from the group of Newtown kids who also recently sang at the Superbowl.

Newtown Music Project director Sabrina Post recently revealed that American Idol host Ryan Seacrest will be flying to Connecticut to do a live segment with the children during Sunday's show. Aww…that must be so exciting for them!  

¡Qué angustia tan grande! Un par de personas se han caído a tiros en un colegio universitario texano, en las afueras de Houston, dejando  heridos y otra comunidad más aterrorizada a consecuencia de violencia con armas de fuego.

Según uno de los portavoces del Texas Lone Star College, uno de los pistoleros está detenido, mientras que el segundo habría dejado el recinto universitario. La balacera habría sido entre los que estaban armados y los heridos fueron víctima del fuego cruzado. ¡En su propia universidad!

Hay papás y mamás que optan por meter la cabeza como el avestruz en la tierra y negar la realidad. Yo soy de las que prefiero confrontar a mis hijos de 9 y 11 años con esa realidad no importa cuan terrible sea. Por eso en mi casa hablamos abiertamente de la masacre en el cine de Aurora, en Colorado, del tiroteo en el centro comercial en Portland, Oregón, y por supuesto de la masacre en la escuela primaria Sandy Hook, en Newtown, Connecticut.
