Juggling parenthood with work can be stressful, but your kids should always be your top priority. That's why I couldn't understand how one New York dad managed to forget his 1-year-old son in a car for EIGHT hours on a freezing cold day!

According to Albany police, the man forgot to drop his son off at day care and instead drove straight to work, leaving the child strapped into the backseat of the car! It wasn't until hours later, at around 4 p.m., that the man's wife called to ask about the child and he realized his horrible mistake.

The dad immediately called an ambulance and the boy was taken to the hospital. Thankfully, he remained uninjured and was able to be released shortly after. Police have not yet determined if the father will be charged.

Okay, I totally understand being busy and preoccupied with work, but I just don't understand how any parent could possibly forget about their own child! I know the dad didn't mean any harm, but that's not an excuse. I mean, that poor little baby was sitting in a car by himself for hours at a time ... in ice-cold temperatures!

As a New York resident, I can vouch firsthand for how awful the weather has been recently. The amount of layers I've had to pile on just to make going outside even the slightest bit bearable is ridiculous. So I can only imagine how cold that little boy must have been stuck in an unheated vehicle.

I'm so glad that the boy is (miraculously) fine because the situation could've obviously turned into something much worse. But I just hope that the dad has learned his lesson and will start paying a LOT more attention from now on!

He should be charged, the baby could have died.

Here in Finland, we tend to put babies for their naps outside even in winter time. They sleep in their warm overalls in warm baby strollers. A couple of hours is OK even when the temperature is about minus 20 centigrade. Sleeping in fresh air provides resistance to diseases. Of course all the clothes, overalls, blankets and strollers must be of the highest possible quality.

Marina Herrero, I hope you never make a mistake in your life because you will remember how judgemental you are.  This was a mistake and I think that father will never overcome his guilty feelings.  Don't be so quick to judge.  You have not been in the same circumstances.

Unfortunately we live in a world where people think that people who do these things are animals, well, let me tell you, it is a very common problem that any change in the routine can do.  We are creatures of habit.  You don't know what happened here, neither one of us do, so instead of judging we should actually feel pity for people who forget their children, because their lives will never be the same, ever.

Be grateful that you have not done the same, and instead of using it to judge, go hug your kids and tell them you love them and vow never to forget them.  it will give you more joy than judging somebody else.

No I don't the dad should be charged. He forgot and lucky the baby is fine. I don't think he did it intentionally, he probably doesn't take the baby to daycare everyday. I am sure he learn his lesson and it will never happen again.
