A fifth-grade boy could be kicked out of school after bringing marijuana to school. The saddest part? He says he didn't bring it for him, but only because he wanted to stop his dad from smoking it! Doesn't that just break your heart?
According to police, the student brought pot to school last week and showed it to his teacher. After his mother was called in, he told school officials that he took the drug from his father's truck not because he wanted it for himself or his classmates, but to to prevent his dad from smoking it!

Unfortunately, his good intentions won't stop him from getting punished. The boy has already been suspended and now the school, which has a no-tolerance policy, says expulsion is the next step--even if the child is telling the truth. A school spokesperson said a hearing will be held to discuss the matter and that administrators will look at surrounding circumstances before deciding on a final punishment.
I just find this story so incredibly sad. Something serious has to be going on in this kid's home life for him to feel like he needs to steal and hide his dad's drugs! And though I understand why the school must punish the student through suspension, I can't believe they'd actually expel him given the circumstances. I mean, what exactly will that teach him? Do something right and you'll get in trouble? He's never going to feel comfortable going to an adult with a problem again.
I hope that authorities at least investigate his home to find out the truth of what's going on. Regardless of the short-sighted view the school seems to have, this is about way more than just him bringing pot to school and more a matter of the child's safety and well-being.
