I always thought that any crime involving murder deserves a harsh punishment, but it seems I was wrong: 76-year-old Ruby Klokow is practically getting away with killing her infant daughter 56 years ago, only serving 45 days in jail and 10 years of probation. The elderly Wisconsin woman was charged with second-degree murder in 2008, 56 years after the murder of her 6-month-old daughter, Jeaneen in 1957.
Ruby had not been charged originally when the crime happened because she told police that the baby had fallen off the sofa while she tended to her brother, James. It wasn't until recently, 5 decades later, that now 57-year-old James came forward and revealed his mother's abusive and alcoholic past, which led police to investigate this decades old crime further. What they discovered in the decades old case will send chills up your spine!
Investigators found that that the brain hemorrhages, partially collapsed lung, and scalp bruises that Jeaneen had at death were NOT an accident, but seemed to have been inflicted intentionally on little Jeaneen. James admitted that their mom would beat and choke him on a regular basis, but came forward after probably years of thinking his sister's death was probably not an accident.

Even more shocking is that it was revealed that Ruby had another son named Scott who was found dead in his crib seven years after Jeaneen's death, but no charges were filed. Eventually further investigation was conducted on the bodies of the dead infants, which concluded that there were definitely signs of abuse. Ruby admitted to police that she had thrown Jeaneen toward the couch and had been coping with 4 children she didn't want ... so her outlet was to abuse them, it seems. Details came out about her abusive past, which ranged from beating her son another son, Bruce's toes with a hammer, breaking James' arms and nose, even kicking him with steel toed boots.
Ruby was officially charged in 2011 after the investigations found signs of foul play. So why is Klokow only getting a slap on the wrist for the horrific crime she committed?
It turns out because how much time has passed, statute of limitations on the crimes make it impossible to charge her with anything less than second degree murder; once she was charged, she was given the option to a plea deal, which she took. The deal also gives her 10 years' probation.
It's frustrating to know that this woman will be roaming the streets soon after he jail time is up. It doesn't matter that she is a senior citizen--she is essentially getting away with the horrible things she did when was a younger, in my opinion. Let's hope that at least her conscience weighs heavily on her, because clearly the full brunt of the law could not.
