Here's a horribly racist story that will get your blood boiling: An African American nurse was recently barred from caring for a child because of her skin color, after a dad refused to let any black nurses handle his newborn baby. Seriously? I thought we lived in 2013! Michigan nurse Tonya Battle is currently suing the Hurley Medical Center Hospital where she had been working for 25 years over racial discrimination because--get this--they granted the dad's wishes!

Can you believe that?!

Battle states in her complaint that she was caring for a baby in the neonatal intensive care unit, when the baby's father suddenly asked to speak with a supervisor. The father then complained to the nurse in charge that he did not want any African Americans taking care of his baby. He even pulled up his sleeve to show a tattoo believed to be a Swastika. Can you believe it? What a total racist jerk!

But as if that wasn't bad enough, the hospital actually granted the father's request and put a horrible note on the baby's chart! Battle learned about the note, which was prominently posted on the assignment clipboard, that read, "No African American nurse to take care of baby." This is absolutely mind-boggling to me! Battle, along with other African American nurses at the hospital, complained about the note that was later removed, but no black nurses were ever assigned to care for the baby again.

Here's what I don't get: If your child were in need of intensive care, wouldn't you want a nurse with 25 years of experience caring for them?  I'm sorry, but if I had a baby that was in special care the LAST thing I'd care about is the nurse's race. The ONLY thing I'd be concerned with is how the nurse is going to help keep my child alive. What kind of demented parent would actually risk their child's survival over some ridiculous racial bias? A stupid, ignorant one that's for sure!

The situation with the racist father is incredibly upsetting, but what makes it worse is that the hospital actually met his disturbing demands. Ugh. I don't understand why no one had the nerve to refuse this man's blatantly racist request. Not to mention, not only was the hospital discriminating against loyal AND experienced employees, but they were potentially putting a little patient in danger. I hope justice is done and this hospital apologizes to its staff for this horrendously racist act.

Racism is alive and never left even at the sake of caring for a newborn baby. We definitely know what this kid will grow up to be!!!
The Hospital is so wrong to grant that evil request.
