Another terrifying school shooting took place today, resulting in a 14-year-old boy getting shot in the head at Price Middle School in Atlanta.
A police spokesman said that the wounded student (who remains unidentified) was "alert, conscious and breathing" when he was taken to a local hospital and that a suspect, reportedly another student, has already been taken into custody.
According to the authorities, a teacher suffered minored cuts and bruises, but was able to be treated at the scene. The school was placed on lockdown and thankfully, all the other students at the school remained safe and unharmed. Police told reporters that "everything is secure."
No further details about the shooter or the weapon that was used has been released.
I'm just shocked and horrified that this is happening again, so soon after the shooting at Newtown and right in the midst of the raging debate over gun control. Though I'm relieved to know that the police has everything under control, I shudder to think of how terrified everyone in that school must have been, particularly in light of recent events.
Still, I'm just glad that authorities were able to keep most of the student body safe. I just pray that the student who was shot is able to recover. My thoughts are with him and with everyone in the community!
