Our maternal instincts usually kick into high gear when something is going on with our kids, but would you actually beat up someone who your son or daughter is having problems with? San Pedro, California Latina mom Amber Lee Gutierrez is being accused of just that, after it's alleged that she showed up with her 12-year-old daughter to a pre-determined spot where the two young girls were supposed to fight, and actually BEAT UP her daughter's 12-year-old rival.

The mom is facing felony assault with attempt to cause great bodily harm charges for the fight, which happened in mid-January. Supposedly, the mom showed up with her daughter to an alley where the two girls had arranged to meet to fight or settle a score of some sort, and instead of trying to break things up, Gutierrez got so involved, throwing several punches and violently assaulting her daughter's rival. The whole thing was captured on video by on onlooker (see below) and the fight left Gutierrez's daughter's rival with a possible broken arm, according to reports.

Wow ... The video, I have to admit, is pretty shocking, so don't watch if you're sensitive. Aside from the punching, you can also hear tons of racial slurs being hurled at the victim. I just don't understand how a grown woman could do this to a child. A CHILD! I don't care that both girls are big for their age, they're kids and as parents we have to alleviate the situation, not make it worse by getting involved!

Now the mom is facing up to seven years in jail and a $100,000 bail, for getting involved in her daughters middle school brawl. Like I always tell people, I know that if my son was ever bullied, this is probably the scenario that would play out in my head of what I would do to his tormentor--but I would NEVER act on it. As adults we have to know that violence is not ever the right lesson to give our kids--and besides, you should never EVER discipline a child that's not yours! As the victim's unidentified mom tells KTLA TV: "I just don't know as a mother what makes you put your hands on a kid that's not yours." So true.

I honestly hope the girl who was attacked in this video is doing better, and hope for Gutierrez's daughter's sake that she at least has another role model she can look to in her life.

I don't think she should have done that because she actually went there knowing what she was going to do, but I don't know what I would have done if my child was being bullied and I find someone beating my her.  I guess you have to truly be in the place and time to know.

No the ADULT should not have interferred that was a CHILD she was hitting. Bully's can be taken care of in a much different manner. That family knew what they went there to do. Please educate yourself so you can educate your children on bullying!!!

Yo no la jusgo,vas das la queja y que resulto ves? ninguno tengo muchas amigas pasando por la misma situacion se quejan se quejan y nadaaaa,ninos matandoce por miedo no quieren ir a la escuela,dejan hasta de comer por los abusos,pues saben que? Bien hecho...suena feo pero es la realidad ,sino defendemos a nuestros hijos,nadie pero nadie lo hara,por mis hijos que me hechen vida si asi quieren,pero no le voy a permitir a nadie pero a nadie ninguna pendejada con mis bebes...

Is so easy to criticize someone for their actions but seeing how this world is now sometimes you have to take matters into your hands. Kids are killing themselves for God sake is this really so surprising? When words are not enough and when justice wants you to wait up to three assaults before they step in you have to defend your kids, if you don't do it nobody else will and the next time your kid will be the one in the news.... Yes I'm sure there are betterways to solve problems but when I read things like this my mother hen instinct kicks in and hell no there is nothing I wouldn't do to protect my child from a damn bully!

wow what is this world coming to. weak a$$ mother fighting her daughters battle by jumping a 12 year old. i cant wait till they get the aunt and girl. why show up to a fight if you cant fight ? gives Latinos a bad name.

Don't let the name I chose for this post make you automatically call me a racist because it would be the exact opposite of who I am. But the fact is, whties in california are now the minority. WHy is that relevant? Because hispanics should NOT be considered a protected class. By NOT pursuing hate crime charges that is what the D.A. is doing. I don't think anyone here can argue if this was a white woman beating this black girl calling her racial slurs, it would be a hate crime ALL DAY. Shame on you D.A. for an obvious and ridiculous double standard. And shame on this mother for perpetuating more violence and racism in the Latino culture.
