Newtown overwhelmed by generosity after shootings, can't handle any more gifts (VIDEO)

It seems like the whole nation is trying to help the community of Newtown, Connecticut move on after the deadly school shooting that took place a couple weeks ago. In fact, the small town has received so many gifts that officials are now requesting that everyone stop sending packages as they can't handle the outpouring of donations.

On Wednesday, town officials made the request through a local newspaper, explaining that while they are deeply grateful for the show of support, the community has been unable to process the overwhelming number of gifts (which have ranged from school supplies to artwork).

In order to sort through the "warehouses full of items," officials are asking people to temporarily stop sending gifts. After they've finished processing what they already have, they'll inform the public of the best ways to help.

And apparently, sending presents isn't the only way people are trying to help. A fund established to support Newtown after the shooting has reportedly reached $3.5 million!

Wow! It's so encouraging to see how the rest of the country has rushed to do what they can in order to try and help Newtown recover from such a devastating tragedy--so much so that officials have actually had to ask everyone to stop! That's amazing!

I'm glad that people have been so giving and caring during this difficult time. Though I know nothing will ever be able to erase or change the horror that the community has had to face, we can do our part to give the town's residents even the slightest bit of hope. After all, it can't hurt to remind them that the rest of the world is thinking of them, especially right around the holiday season.
