Well, this is disturbing! In a recent interview with the National Catholic Register, an American friar of the conservative Franciscan Friars of the Renewal alleged that it's actually the teens that are seducing priests in some sexual abuse cases involving clergy.
Excuse me?!
When asked about his work with sexual abuse perpetators, 78-year-old Father Benedict Groeschel said that people often assume that priests are the ones to blame in these situations. But he also said that's not always the case. "Suppose you have a man having a nervous breakdown, and a youngster comes after him. A lot of the cases, the youngster--14, 16, 18--is the seducer," he stated.

Groeschel also went on to suggest that relationships between younger boys and grown men have historically not been considered to be criminal. "If you go back 10 or 15 years ago with different sexual difficulties--except for rape or violence--it was very rarely brought as a civil crime," he said.

Wow, what a convenient way of thinking! Now it's the kids who are to blame for being too damn seductive. How interesting that he failed to mention that even if this (completely ridiculous) presumption is true--which it obviously isn't--it would still be wrongdoing on the part of the priest because, oh I don't know, they're ADULTS and should probably know better than to engage in any type of questionable activity with young kids.
And then to say that it's not a crime on top of that? This argument sounds like it came from the exact same idiotic Todd Akin "pregnancy doesn't come from legitimate rape," textbook. Seriously, is there a school somewhere that breeds these people? Or do they all just share one teeny tiny brain?
The most terrifying part of Groeschel's statements though is that he is not the only "religious" figure to believe this theory. Clerical figures everywhere are engaging in this state of mind, despite that the whole attitude lacks any real form of logic and common sense and is absolutely sickening.

Goes to show, they can apologize all they want but they are only sorry they got caught. They still dont get how evil and wrong it is...they still try to justify it. And they wonder why they have no credibility left.
