More terrible news in what has already been a tragic summer--a gunman opened fire near Texas A&M university, resulting in 2 injuries and at least 3 fatalities, including that of the shooter himself.
Though the suspect was taken into custody by police about 15 minutes after they originally issued a series of warnings on the college's website, authorities are saying that two people, one civilian and one officer, were killed. The gunman himself was wounded and died in custody. Police have not yet released the names of the victims.
According to the university's alert, the gunman fired shots from inside a home about two blocks from the campus. Now, Sgt. Jason James, a spokesman for the local police department, says the scene is secure and under control. "We're still trying to piece together the puzzle," he said of the shooting.
I can't believe there has been ANOTHER shooting, the third in a matter of weeks! What is going on with the world? I'm stunned and horrified, not to mention truly devastated for the community and all those at the university. I can't even imagine how terrifying that must have been to experience, although I am thankful to see how quickly the police acted in response to the 911 calls. I only hope that those who remain injured are able to recover and that any nearby residents remain safe. My thoughts and prayers are with them all and particularly, with the families of those who lost their lives today.
