How to pickle peppers & other Latin vegetables (VIDEO)

Canning and pickling is something that I sometimes joke is in my blood. My grandfather was a big fan of it. In fact, I even remember him making his very own pickles when I was young. Now pickles are one of my favorite foods and, although I typically buy them in the grocery store, I still remember the crunch of my abuelito's fresh pickles. Let me tell you, there's simply nothing better than homemade pickles.

Latin slow cooker: Spicy apple butter that's the perfect snack! (EXCLUSIVE RECIPE)

I grew up in a typical Cuban household, so it may be no surprise that I didn't really hear of apple butter until last year. To be honest, I don't really know any Latinos that eat apple butter but I'm here to tell you that you absolutely MUST add this delicious snack into your life! Here's why:

The Southern specialty is basically like apple sauce, except thicker, richer, and MUCH tastier. It works great as a spread and I also love having it as a snack (the same as I would do with regular apple sauce) or as a dessert (maybe even putting it on top of something, like a brownie). After making my first batch of apple butter last year (after an apple-picking trip with my family), this year I decided that the perfect way to celebrate the start of fall would be to make a spicy apple butter with some delicious Latin flavor!

Now, making apple butter can take a while but luckily my trusty slow cooker was up to the challenge! And now I have lots of deliciousness to enjoy.

It's a great and creative idea to celebrate Halloween or just the Autumn season. Plus, you can make it kid-friendly by taking the insides of the pumpkin and making a pumpkin juice, which comes directly out of the Harry Potter books! I bet your kids will love that and they'll love it even more when they're pouring it out of the pumpkin keg. The best part, though, is that you can make it with your kids for an afternoon of fun, creativity, and delicious pumpkin juice that the whole family with enjoy this Fall.

5 Latin Fall dishes to make with the kids (RECIPES)

Cooking with your kids is one of the things I treasure most. It's the best way to both ensure that you're making something they'll like as well as teaching them valuable skills for the future. One of my favorite things, though, is teaching kids how to cook with fresh, seasonal ingredients like the delicious Autumn fruits and veggies found in these 5 Latin Fall recipes that are kid-friendly.

From yuca fries (cause what kid doesn't like fries?) with chipotle mayonnaise or boniato mash (like mashed potatoes, only BETTER) with mojo, there's a delicious side dish anyone will love. Then there's the mushroom quesadilla (great for lunch!) or the fettuccine with a tomatillo and cilantro pesto (oh my, YUM!), both of which I'm craving right now. And, of course, you can't end stop until you make a pumpkin spice flan for dessert. Dig in!
