This year's awards season kicked off last night with the People's Choice Awards. And though the big winner of the night was undoubtedly the first flick in the action trilogy The Hunger Games, two of our favorite Latina reality TV show judges, Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato, also received some much-deserved love!
Both Aguilera and Lovato were nominated in the category for Favorite Celebrity Judge for their mentoring duties on The Voice and X-Factor, respectively. Besides facing off with each other, the two also had stiff competition in Aguilera's Voice co-star Adam Levine and fellow Latina, Jennifer Lopez, who were also up for the prize. But in the end, the judge who ended up taking the win was…. Lovato!
I can't say I'm too surprised. After all, these particular awards are voted on by the public and Lovato has anything, it's a super dedicated fan base!

Meanwhile, Aguilera had an eventful night of her own. First she took the stage for a touching rendition of one of her new songs "Blank Slate." Decked out in a black pants and white blazer and surrounded by candles, Aguilera sang along to a piano for a powerful performance that was much more subtle than her usual style. I have to admit, I much prefer when Aguilera sings this way! It's so much more heartfelt than her typical over-the-top concerts and stage outfits.
And that wasn't the only time Xtina had all eyes on her. Though Lovato might have beat her in one category, Aguilera did not walk away empty-handed. Actually, she received an even bigger prize, a special honor dedicated just to her called the "People's Voice Award" (haha, get it?).
While accepting the award, Aguilera was obviously still emotional, telling the audience, "Thank you for giving me this form of expression and letting me use my voice."
I'm so happy for both of these amazing artists, but especially for Xtina. After all, despite all the antics that often get her criticized, no one can deny that she truly is one of the greatest female vocalists of all time and she deserves this recognition!
