If you grew up in the United States and you are a certian age, you are very sad today. Our beloved MCA (Adam Yauch) lost his fight with cancer, just two weeks after the Hip-Hop trio was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A world without the Beasties just seems too hard to imagine.
Like me, Pitbull was growning up at a time when Licensed to Ill was the hottest thing on the planet and we were teenagers when Ill Communication and Hello Nasty were global hits. So it is no wonder that Pitbull paid the Beasties the best compliment he could on last year's mega hit album, Armando by covering their hit "Girls".
Some people think it's arrogant to cover such legends and change the original lyrics, but Pitbull told Billboard at the time "It's really about making fun but it's real s--t everyone can relate to."
While it will never be the original "Girls", it is hard to deny that the beat the Beasties laid down is hot, in English or Spanish, in 1984 or 2011.
RIP, MCA. You will be missed.
