Meet the ¿Qué Más? Writers

  • I am a mother. I am a wife. I am a friend. I am a blogger. I am a creative mind. I was an ad-woman for the last 19 years of my life. I am Mexican. I am crazy. I am sane. I live in NY. I live in Spanish. I live in English. I love to be with my kids, I love the hour after I put them to bed. I love to write. I love to walk. I love to travel. I love to read. I love witty, sharp and fast. My sanity comes from yoga, writing, good conversations and wine. My kids, Juliana and Diego - are by far -the best idea I’ve ever had.

  • At 11 years old, I wrote in my diary, "Most of all, I want to be a writer."  Through my long and successful marketing career, I have always kept my love affair with the written word, publishing pieces in Newsweek, The Washington Post, The Star Ledger and NJ.com.  I co-chair of a non-profit that works with migrant workers in my state and love to spend weekends at home in New Jersey with my 10 and 12-year olds and my mini Australian Shepherds and my totally snooty Siamese cat.

  • I was born and raised in Chile until I moved to New York when I was 11 years old. My family went back to Chile but I stayed behind after marrying a very supportive Gringo of Irish descent. We have two beautiful children (a boy and a girl, ages 14 and 16 respectively). I am  proud of my Latin culture and roots and work hard at retaining and passing on my heritage and traditions to my kids. I love all types of food, spending time with my familia, music, diversity and constant discovery. I feel fortunate to be able to take the best of my two cultures and create my own!

  • This Latina mama has been through a lot in my 28 years of life! I have a deep love and passion for fashion, beauty, and anything that will make me feel glamorous in my chanclas. I got my start on YouTube, put together a breastfeeding group, and I am active on my personal blog--all while raising my beautiful son Jude on my own. Nothing is impossible and I can't wait to see what my future has in store for me.

  • My life is  a beautiful tapestry threaded with contradictions. My dad was the cook and nurturer. I was raised to be the professional woman I became (I´ve worked for companies of the caliber of The Wall Street Journal). Having children turned my world upside down. From manicures every week I became one of those moms that makes bread from scratch. It is not unusual for me to be taking notes from an interview while surrounded by piles of laundry waiting to be folded.

  •  I’m a pianist and writer who studied journalism and music. I live in English and Spanish, visit my native Colombia yearly but love my multicultural U.S. life. As a wife and mother of two teens, balancing everything with my job as executive director of Latin content for Billboard and host of TV show Estudio Billboard is a challenge. Add my life as a novelist (my second baby, The Second Time We Met—www.leilacobo.com-- is out in February) and my plate is full. Nothing a manicure and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc can’t fix!

  • I'm your everyday hard working Latina, wife and mother of 3 children. I love giving back to my community. I coach cheerleading for the city of Azusa. Mexican food is a passion of mine. Cooking is not only fun to prepare but it's also good for your soul! As I serve each dish I am reminded of the long time traditional recipes I am continuing for my family. I try to make my meals fun and as easy as possible so that the working momma that comes home tired, wondering "what to make?" will have something new to look forward too!

  • One of my passions is to present faith perspectives on real-life problems which affect our modern-day society, especially controversial issues often avoided by spiritual leaders. Media has enabled me to talk about all sorts of issues in many different ways. My first book First Life, Real Love, a book available in English also became a bestseller in Spanish. I'm grateful for the success of my new momoir entitled Dilemma, and blessed with a wonderful family and a new baby on the way!

  • Creative from a young age, I fell in love with writing early on and have never looked back. My education took me from journalism classes at NYU to an internship at Latina magazine, my first job in the international department of InStyle and, finally, here to MamásLatinas. I have written about fashion, travel, relationships and currently blog about food and my weight loss journey.

  • I am a writer who moves comfortably between English and Spanish. I write mostly about media and advertising but every now and then I like to share my views on topics as varied as food, music and pop culture. I am not a mom, but I have often been called a mamacita.

  • I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and am determined to help Latina moms to save money, offering tips, scenarios and tricks in Spanish. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science which explains why I love all things social media, and launched my own Android/iPhone apps for my blog Cuponeando. When I'm not deal hunting, you can find me in the kitchen, empowering fellow bloggers or having fun with my family.

  • Writing has been a longstanding passion. My career began as a reporter at Fortune Magazine, before I became an editor at Selecciones. These days I write for various websites and run my social media consulting company. I have a love-hate relationship with running, but managed to complete a half-marathon in decent time. I love to discover new places to eat and our family's travel often revolves around food and fitness. At home I love discovering ways to lighten up meals to keep myself and my family healthy.

  • I am a Mexican woman with an adventurous spirit. I like travelling and learning about other cultures. Another passion of mine is gastronomy, although I must admit that I do not spend much time in the kitchen but when I do, everything has to be spicy. I love documentaries and investigative reports about social and cultural topics and I love to write about the things that I am passionate about in life.

  • Photography for me is more than a career, is a passion and a way of life.  My love affair with this medium began more than 20 years ago.  Since then I've had the pleasure of witnessing some amazing events and meeting some of the most celebrated people on the planet.

  • I'm an Editorial Assistant at MamásLatinas. I am a native New Yorker who graduated from NYU as a Journalism and English major in 2011. Throughout my undergrad career, I contributed regularly to NYU's paper, Washington Square News, and held internships at the Long Island Press, amNewYork, The New York Times Local: East Village, and Seventeen Magazine. A self-professed literature nerd and news junkie, I love to relax by reading magazines, newspapers, and books while sipping iced caramel macchiatos. I am addicted to shoes, coffee, yoga and all things John Hughes.

  • I'm passionate about fashion--tempted and hypnotized by it! I remember as a child designing my own outfits (a seamstress would turn what I'd imagine into actual pieces I could wear). I might not go to a seamstress anymore but life is still my runway. Shoes are my fetish since I was 3 years old when you could see me wearing my mom's high heels all around the house. Besides fashion, I'm an avid sports fan. To me, sports and fashion are the perfect pair!

  • I'm the Managing Editor of CafeMom's MamásLatinas, I hate to be photographed and I watch so much food/cooking related television that I ended up in culinary school which some how got me pregnant! My abuela bought me the first Menudo album (yes it was an actual record) when I was 13 and it changed my life.

  • I basically have an opinion about everything and I like to share it through media! I dabbled in TV production and eventually landed at Latina magazine as the online editor before joining MamásLatinas. On most nights you can find me working my way through my library of cookbooks or playing with my puppy Lola (my only child so far). I have a wonderful hubby who shares my passion for any and all kinds of travel. Together, we’ve formed a semi-professional wine drinking team.

  • I am an Argentinean who learned English watching movies and reading sappy teen novellas. I've been writing since I'm 12, when I claimed my grandmother's dusty typewriter. I live in Miami, where I've fallen in love all over again with everything that is Latin: pastelitos, Spanish, dancing, rock en español, corals, and yellows. I love good stories, and good pictures. And one day, when I get to the end of my American dream, I'll be the proud owner of a cupcake shop and perfect my mother's ham and cheese empanadas.

  • I'm a Peruvian immigrant who moved to Miami at 14. As a journalist, I've been creating bilingual/bicultural content for print, online and television for 20 years. I'm also a mom and my Puerto Rican husband and I are raising our two kids – Vanessa + Santiago – in gorgeous Colorado where they're growing up between two worlds and in two languages. In 2009, I co-founded SpanglishBaby a site for parents raising bilingual and bicultural children. Our first book, Bilingual is Better, will be out in September.

  • As Editor-in-Chief of MamásLatinas, I am most excited to be a part of a talented team that is vibrant with ideas. Having been raised (in Puerto Rico) as one of five children in a home that seemed to be always awake and in full motion, I'm your typical juggling mom: after work every day and on weekends it's back on high gear running from here to there with my three amazing kids (ages 17, 15 and 9). I'm a hopeless romantic who enjoys photography, is crazy about shoes, and LOVES to travel!

I know I'm Latina when... fashion, food and music to me have to be colorful, spicy and loud!

  • I am a Senior Editor at Mamás Latinas. I moved to United States seven years ago, and since then I’ve been learning English from scratch and refuse to lose! I am working on improving my English, but I’m having fun writing in my own language in the meantime. Stay tuned for some of the funniest anecdotes about learning another language you will ever hear. I love traveling, no matter where or how, I just love it! But the view I’ve loved the most in my life are the cute faces of my sons…when they are sleeping.

  •  As a girl I dreamt of becoming a teacher. I´d play for hours long with a little blackboard in one hand and ¨dictate¨ a whole class... to my dog Bobby! Today I laugh listening to the things my kids Andrea and Santiago say. I consider myself an authoritative mom; my kids know the expectations while discovering their voices and know they are heard. What I love most about my work is being able to help other moms and dads. I´m thankful for the opportunity to do so here, in Discovery Familia and in People en Español.
